More than 75 blind and visually impaired students from Hillsborough County and their parents, staff and friends gathered at the Lions Eye Institute for Transplant & Research on Friday, December 5 in anticipation of Santa Claus. The children arrived and began snacking on yummy holiday treats and making art projects for friends and family. Santa Claus emerged from the elevator bellowing “ho, ho, ho,” and carrying a sack overflowing with gifts donated from the Lions Eye Institute for Transplant & Research and Lions Eye Institute Foundation staff. While Santa’s visit was great fun for the children, they also learned to develop their other senses as Santa encourages them to explore his curly, white beard, listen to his jingle bells and enjoy the sweet taste of a peppermint candy cane.
